Makeup

Makeup makes everyone look better
Ok ladies.  There's a million reasons moms find for not wearing makeup:
  • not leaving the house today
  • no one notices anyway
  • no time
  • you're "against" makeup because beauty is on the inside.
On and on, I'm sure I missed tons.  Makeup is the one tool women have that men do not have.  Well, most men.  We get to wear makeup, it's a privilege.  Whether you adopt a routine that takes two minutes or twenty minutes doesn't matter.  Makeup is there to enhance what you have, cover up what you don't want, and to make you feel beautiful.  The best advice I ever got when I had my first child was to put makeup on every day, even if you don't leave the house.

Beauty is on the inside, but it's on the outside too.  We take care of both the inside and outside of our homes, why wouldn't we take care of the inside and outside of ourselves?

For those of you who insist you have "no time":
  • Moisturize.
  • Concealer.  Dark circles under those eyes need to be covered.  It ages you and makes you look like a hag.  Cover them up.  Follow with either loose powder or a pressed foundation.  A few dashes on the nose, eyes, and chin will smooth things out.
  • Mascara.  It will make your eyes stand out and look awake.
  • Gloss/lipstick/tinted balm.  Doesn't matter, just put something on.  And not in a dark color, you don't want to look like an old whore during the day.
That should have taken you all of five minutes or less.  I guarantee you that no matter what your household is like you CAN find the time for this routine.  And if your excuse is your kids, then that's a topic for a whole different posting.  Kids don't run the show, you do.  You CAN make five minutes of time for yourself.

If you have more time, add the following:
  • Eyeshadow.  A simple neutral shade swept on the lids brightens up everything.  If you're more experienced and talented, opt for modestly applied colors but leave the smokey eye to date night.  Dramatic daytime makeup is for skanks.  And Kardashians.
  • Eyeliner.  Steel grey, brown, or black subtly lined eyes are beautiful.
  • Bronzer and/or blush.  This is one of my musts every day because pale sickly skin makes me feel depressed.  I prefer to, in the words of Carrie Bradshaw, look "impossibly refreshed."  You're not on Jersey Shore, so take it easy.  Strive for a natural look; sunkissed, not sundrenched.
Don't let this be you!
These added steps were only an additional five minutes.  It is possible, stop making excuses.  You look horrible without makeup, we all do.  Even the most beautiful models look homely without it.  I've seen non makeup wearing women on the soccer field.  They don't look like they like themselves, they look depressed.  I bet their attitude would change if they felt pretty.  Everyone wants to feel pretty, even those who stake their flag in the ground and claim to be against makeup.  I doubt they'd turn down a compliment on their beautiful eyes nicely enhanced by an easily applied product.  Plus, husbands like it.  Leads to better bedroom play.  If you don't like the way you look, how do you expect anyone else to?
